Advance Wars is both my favorite strategy game and favorite portable game ever made. It is so incredibly simple at first yet so amazingly fun. It is a turn based strategy game involving cute characters. The object is to move your guys around the map and destroy the enemy guys, capture their bases, or some other similar objective.

There is a full tutorial mode that is very helpful, so you will learn how to play easily. You will find out that the game becomes much harder as time goes on. Figuring out how to play isn't the hard part. It is hard because it is similar to chess: memorize what each piece does, the strengths and weaknesses of each piece, and how to respond to you opponent's moves. The later missions involve CPU opponents that are extremely tough, requiring you to practice and become a perfect player if you want to finish the game. In other words: your opponents are harder than hell on the advanced levels.

The graphics are descent, so are the sound and music. This game is all about the gameplay - the technology department is kept to a minimum. Action takes place from above the levels. You get an organized user interface and an easy to use field map for using your units. There are some pretty cool battle animations, although I eventually turned them off to speed up the game. However, this game would still rule if there was no sound and the graphics looked worse than Pac-Man. There are tons of modes: campaign (story), war room (high score), build maps, tutorial, vs. (take turns with 1 game boy or link up to 4 game boys), and tons more. There are hundreds of maps, not to mention the ones you can build. Also, there is a status page for ranks and achievements.

Buy this game if you like strategy war games that are simple yet very complex. Nevermind...just buy this game! It doesn't matter what kind of games you like, this game is awesome and you would have to be weird to not like it. There are enough maps and scenarios to make this game last months. But be warned: Advance Wars is one extremely addictive game.
